This is a preliminary study for the painting 'An Allegory Of The Soul', one of four as yet unfinished artworks exploring the journey of the soul through its various incarnations. The series was inspired by Phoebe Anna Traquair's four beautiful tapestries, entitled 'The Progress Of The Soul', currently housed in Edinburgh Art Gallery, Scotland, and the wonderful 'Lorenzaccio', the art Nouveau poster created in 1896 by Alphonse Mucha.
The artwork was created using a mixed media technique primarily consisting of gouache, silver and gold leaf, and it is sympathetically presented in an ivory mount in a mango wood frame.
