John Afflick often finds inspiration from historical paintings and adapts them to suit his particular artistic needs, a method used by some, if not all, painters throughout history. In this particular image the inspiration originates from Pierre-Paul Prud'hon's  'Seated female Nude By A Fountain'. Afflick often uses these preliminary adaptations to create larger scale works later.
