Although there is a narrative in much of Afflick's work, albeit a mysterious or ambiguous one, this painting appears to be a simple study of the human form. the work is on a relatively small scale and yet the rendering of the flesh is delicately modelled and contrasts beautifully next to the dark rembrandtesque landscape.
